I am a freelance writer living in the Middle East. I have over 10 years of professional writing and editing experience, the willingness and ability to travel anywhere for the sake of a writing project, and a healthy respect for publication deadlines.

2007-Present 

Author of Ocean City: A Guide to Maryland’s Seaside Resort, a Tourist Town guide published by Channel Lakes Publishing in April 2009. Create and/or edit meeting summaries, press releases, newsletters, marketing collateral, treatments for screenplays, and web content for a variety of government, corporate, and non-profit clients.

 

Co-founder, President, Greenbelt Farmers Market

2007-2009

Started a local, producer-only farmers market to serve the community of Greenbelt, Maryland. Collaborated to create articles of incorporation, by-laws, and market rules and regulations. Incorporated and obtained IRS 501(c)3 status for the organization. Cultivated relationships with various city agencies and merchants to foster cooperation among the farmers market and its various stakeholders. Now in its second year, the market serves an average of 1,000 customers each week.

 

Owner, Greenbelt Om Community Yoga

2006-2008 

Created a yoga studio that operates inside an established day spa. The studio opened in February 2007. Created business plan, marketing campaigns and administrative procedures. Sold the business in October, 2008.

  

Managing Editor, Daedalus Books

2001-2006

Managed all aspects of catalog production for a mail-order book and music company with over $26 million in annual sales and a catalog circulation of up to 1 million. Edited copy and approved all pages for print. Led a project to re-design the look and editorial style of the catalog. Negotiated contracts with print vendors, and worked with them to improve print quality. Hired, managed, and reviewed a staff of four, and arranged for their continuing education in graphic design and publishing.

2000-2001

Handled all administrative responsibilities with regard to the publication of JEP:LMC. Served as liaison between the journal’s print production staff and its editor at the University of Maryland.

 

Theater Manager, Greenbelt Arts Center

1997-1998

As the sole employee reporting to a non-profit community theater, ran a 100-seat theater with a lobby that was converted to a gallery space during my tenure. Was responsible for all theater advertising and publicity.

 

Realtor, Realty Executives/2000

1996-1999

Sold real estate in the state of Maryland. In my first year, was ranked among the top five producers in a company with 3 offices and over 100 agents. Created all marketing materials and advertisements.

 

Writer, Graphic Designer, Daedalus Books

1994-1996

Worked with the president and computer staff to move the production of the Daedalus Books catalog from a manual process to an electronic one. Helped to create all electronic templates and workflow processes used to make their catalog using desktop publishing rather than manual paste-up. Wrote all catalog copy—a job previously performed by the company president—and created all page layouts. Communicated with printing companies and service bureaus, working with vendors to ensure high-quality print jobs.

Drafted correspondence and assisted with “traffic management” of workflow between account executives and creative staff in the Los Angeles agency.

1990-1991

General reporter for the Ventura County, California, bureau. Wrote news and feature articles. Once wrote 19 news briefs in one day.
